Freehaven
A haven free of admin

We take away the admin, so you can do your job.

Freehaven builds the AI front office and back office for doctors, clinics and hospitals. Made by doctors, for doctors, and for the managers and leaders who run our services.

What we build

Everything around the patient, so the doctor can be with the patient.

Each product starts as a real problem in a working practice, and runs there before it is offered to anyone else.

Live in one practice

Mia

AI front office

Answers the practice phone day and night. Answers questions, books, moves and cancels video consultations, and hands the practice manager a clear task for everything else. Nothing medical: anyone who may be unwell is passed to a person.

In development

Scribe

Clinic letters

Writes the clinic letter while the doctor looks at the patient, not at a screen. The doctor reads and signs every letter.

In development

Billing

Back office

Sends the invoice to the insurer or the patient and follows it up, without anyone typing it. Payments go straight to the doctor, never through us.

Freehaven works alongside the practice software you already use.

How we build

Five things we believe.

The consultation is protected

Trust is built in the room, by listening. We never automate the consultation. We take away everything that pulls a doctor's eyes from the patient, and we keep the promises made in the room afterwards: the result answered, the letter sent, the bill settled.

Problems first

We do not start with technology looking for a use. Every product begins as a problem someone in healthcare faces every day, and is judged by what it changes for them: hours returned, costs reduced, services that run more smoothly.

Quality before scale

A few things, done properly. Nothing is added until it is as good as what is already there, and nothing is offered to others until it has earned its place in a working practice. We build every product as if it were already sold: reliable, secure and recoverable from the start.

Positive-sum

We only build what leaves everyone better off: the doctor, their team, their patients and us. The same terms for everyone, and nothing hidden. What works in one practice is shared with every practice that uses Freehaven, and what our users tell us decides what we build next.

Safety is designed in, not added on

A person stands between the software and anything that cannot be undone: a patient's care, money, a contract. Our AI never pretends to be a person, and never makes a clinical decision.

Safety and trust

Built with clinical safety from the first line.

Healthcare software has to earn trust before it is used. Here is where we stand today. We mark what is still in progress, and say so only when it is done.

In place

  • Designed by a practising consultant. Every clinical sentence Mia says was approved by him from the first build.
  • A named clinical safety officer, a consultant on the GMC specialist register.
  • A hazard log kept from the design stage, with every control tested before each release.
  • No clinical judgement by software. Anyone who may be unwell hears a consultant's approved words and is passed to a person.
  • Registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.
  • Patients' information is never used to train AI.
  • Payments never pass through us. Patients and insurers pay the doctor directly.

In progress

  • Clinical safety case to DCB0129, the NHS standard for those who make health software, re-signed whenever a release changes a risk.
  • Cyber Essentials Plus, the UK government-backed scheme, independently tested.
  • NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit.
  • UK first. Moving our AI processing to UK data centres.
Freehaven began with one consultant's frustration.

Mr Haider Jan, a consultant gynaecologist and robotic surgeon, set out to rid himself of the admin that crowded out his clinical work. He has worked at every layer of a health service: within his first month as a consultant he was running the department's rota, and he went on to lead gynaecology, a directorate and then a division of an NHS trust. From every one of those roles he saw the same thing: clinicians drowning in paperwork, managers chasing spreadsheets, and leaders with too little time to lead.

So he started with his own working day. He built tools for the problems he hated dealing with, and ran his own practice on them. Freehaven is the result: a haven free of admin, so clinicians can care, managers can manage and leaders can lead.
